An FIR has been registered against IPL cricketer Shashank Singh, his father Shailesh Singh, and others following allegations of physical assault made by a cook, identified as Tomar. The case has been registered by Ratibad Police in Bhopal, and an investigation is underway.
According to the complaint, Tomar was offered a job at the family's Nilbad residence with a monthly salary of ₹15,000, along with free food, accommodation, and an assurance of assistance in securing a government job in the future.
However, Tomar alleged that shortly after joining, he was subjected to verbal abuse and mental harassment over the quality of the food he prepared. He claimed that when he informed the family that he wished to leave the job and return home, his mobile phone was taken away and he was allegedly prevented from leaving.
In his complaint, Tomar alleged that Shailesh Singh questioned his intentions for coming to the house, accused him of possible criminal motives, and insisted that he work for at least a month. He further claimed that he was threatened and intimidated during the incident.
Tomar said that after working for two days in the hope of getting his phone back, he locked himself inside a room and demanded the return of his belongings. According to his statement, the family's driver attempted to force open the door, after which Shashank Singh arrived. Tomar alleged that once he opened the door, he was physically assaulted by Shashank Singh, the driver, Shailesh Singh, and another family member.
He further claimed that he sustained injuries during the alleged assault and was later medically examined by the police. According to officials, the medical examination noted visible injury marks on his face and body.
Tomar also alleged that before being allowed to leave, he was asked to reimburse the family for three days' worth of food. He stated that a relative transferred ₹1,000, which he handed over before being released. He further alleged that he was made to write a statement before being permitted to leave the premises.
Speaking to ANI, Tomar said he initially believed Shashank Singh would help resolve the situation, but instead alleged that the cricketer also participated in the assault.
Based on the complaint, Ratibad Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 296(B) (obscene acts and verbal abuse), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 3(5) (joint criminal liability).
As of now, Shashank Singh has not issued any public statement regarding the allegations. The police investigation is ongoing, and the allegations remain unverified in court. No findings establishing guilt have been made at this stage.
