IndiGo aircraft hits tail during landing at Gorakhpur airport, grounded

An IndiGo aircraft has been grounded at Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur airport after it suffered a tail impact while landing on August 19, 2026.

IndiGo flight 6E 2379 suffered the tail impact while landing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was informed about the incident as per the standard operating procedure (SOP). The probe team is yet to reach Gorakhpur to inspect the aircraft.

A Gorakhpur Airport official confirmed that the aircraft involved in the tail impact incident has been grounded.

IndiGo, meanwhile, said the aircraft is undergoing maintenance and will resume operations after receiving the necessary clearances.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said, “On 19 August 2026, IndiGo flight 6E 2381 from Delhi to Gorakhpur, during the landing approach carried out a go around in the interest of safety. The aircraft returned and had a safe landing at the Gorakhpur airport, where all customers and crew disembarked safely.

“The aircraft is undergoing maintenance as scratches were observed around APU inlet during regular post flight walk-around.

“The aircraft will resume operations post necessary clearances.

“At IndiGo, the safety of our customers, crew, and aircraft is our top priority.”
