"Here's proof of our love for K-Pop..." This is what was written in the heartbreaking suicide note recovered after the deaths of three sisters in Ghaziabad, revealing their intense emotional attachment to the Korean pop culture alongside signs of deep personal distress and pressure at home.
Authorities say the note, now part of the investigation, contained repeated apologies to family members and reflected feelings of being misunderstood and overwhelmed.
The three girls – aged 12, 14, and 16 – jumped off the ninth floor of their apartment building in Ghaziabad in the early hours of Wednesday.
Initial reports suggested that the triple suicide was linked to an unidentified Korean task-based gaming app. But, the police later ruled it out and said the victims were influenced by Korean culture and entertainment.
According to police sources, the note — described as several pages long — contained repeated apologies to their father and suggested the sisters felt misunderstood about their interests and personal choices.
Portions of the writing expressed an intense admiration for Korean actors and K-pop artists, describing that world as central to their emotional lives.
“We loved Korean pop music very deeply we’re sorry. You may not have understood how much it meant to us, but it was a huge part of our lives. We felt a strong emotional connection to the actors and the music we followed. At times, it felt like that world mattered more to us than anything else around us," the note read.
"The thought of marrying an Indian and not a Korean brought us stress and confusion. We never expected to feel this way, even about our own lives. We’re sorry, Papa.”
Police said statements from family members are being recorded, and forensic analysis is underway.
The case is under scrutiny on multiple fronts, including reports that the girls had not attended school and had remained at home for the past two years.
Their father, Chetan Kumar, a forex trader, has two wives — who are sisters — and the couple have five children in total: four daughters and a son. The entire family lived together.
There's also confusion over the series of events that led to the extreme step.
While some reports claimed that two of the sisters jumped together holding hands and the third leapt separately from a window, a witness told, that he saw two attempting to jump while the third appeared to be pulling them back, seemingly trying to stop them.
