Hansraj College has placed around 30 students, including four elected union office-bearers, under interim suspension over alleged misconduct tied to its annual fest. This has led to a debate over campus discipline, with students calling it an attack on campus democracy, while the administration cites the need for discipline and institutional order.

The suspensions issued between April 20 and April 25 have become one of the most discussed developments. The suspended students have been barred from entering the campus, and the suspension will remain in effect until further directions or completion of disciplinary proceedings.

Why were the students suspended?

The students were suspended due to the following reasons:

  • The students defamed the institution through social media platforms

  • They also used derogatory language against teaching and non-teaching staff

  • Acts of indiscipline

  • Physical violence during the annual fest

  • Disruption of campus order

This move has sparked outrage from the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU). They have strongly criticised the administration’s decision.
