Gurugram man lures, rapes and strangles 3-year-old; buries body
A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled in Gurugram by a neighbour who lured her away from her home in a nearby village, police officials said.
The suspect, Shivanath, a native of Bihar, was taken into custody and subsequently arrested after CCTV footage and forensic evidence linked him to the incident in Sector 37.
The crime occurred at approximately 7.00 pm on Thursday while the toddler was playing outside her residence. According to police, Shivanath, who lived in the same neighbourhood and was employed at a local manufacturing unit, enticed the child away from her home.
He allegedly transported her to a secluded, desolate location roughly four kilometres away, where he committed the assault and murdered the child before burying her body to conceal the crime.
When the toddler failed to return home, her family immediately alerted the authorities. Given the gravity of the situation, police teams were deployed to examine CCTV footage from the surrounding area. During the review, officers spotted visuals of the child being led away by a young man, who was later identified as her neighbour.
Acting on the complaint, the Gurugram police arrested the suspect that same night. During interrogation, Shivanath reportedly confessed that he worked in a scrap factory and admitted that on the evening of February 19, he took the child to an isolated area where he raped and strangled her to destroy evidence.
Based on the father’s complaint, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is currently underway.
