Fake cancer drug racket busted in Delhi: 7 arrested

The Delhi Police busted a racket involved in selling fake cancer drugs, leading to the arrest of seven people, and seizing millions worth of counterfeit medication and equipment.

At least seven people, including two employees at a cancer hospital in Delhi, were arrested on charges of selling fake drugs in the name of treating cancer. The development came as the crime branch of the Delhi Police busted a racket for selling cancer chemotherapy drugs.

According to the details, the racket was busted in Delhi's Moti Nagar area, from where the police team also recovered a total of nine cancer medicines, worth Rs 4 crore, and cash.

A huge quantity of empty vials, packaging equipment, and machinery equipment was also seized.

The action against the nexus was taken after the crime branch received information about a racket involved in the manufacturing and supply of fake cancer medicines. Subsequently, the branch formed a team to nab the accused.

Several rounds of raids were conducted at four locations in the national capital, based on the information received.

The main accused in the case was recognised as Viphil Jain. Police said one Suraj Shat was managing the refilling and packaging of the recovered vials.

During raids, they found 140 filled vials of cancer injections of Opdyta, Keytruda, Dextrose, and Fluconazole brands.

Another accused, identified as Neeraj Chauhan, housed a cache of cancer injections and vials at an apartment in Gurugram.

During raids at his premises, the police found 137 vials of cancer injections, namely Keytruda, Infinzi, Tecentriq, Perjeta, Opdyta, Darzalex and Erbitux, along with 519 empty vials of Keytruda, Infinzi, Tecentriq, Perjeta, Opdyta, Darzalex and Phesgo.

The police also recovered 864 empty packaging boxes of vials. Neeraj's cousin brother, Tushar Chauhan, was also arrested, for allegedly being involved with the supply chain.

The third round of raids was conducted in Delhi's Yamuna Vihar area, where, one Parvez, who arranged empty vials for Viphil Jain, was arrested. The police also found 20 empty vials on his premises.

The fourth round of raids, at a cancer hospital in Delhi, led to the arrest of others involved in the supply of empty/half-filled vials of cancer injections. Those arrested from the hospital were identified as Komal Tiwari and Abhinay Kohli.

The Delhi Police confirmed a case against all accused was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigations into the case were underway
