A 65-year-old retired ISRO employee allegedly strangled his wife to death with a towel at their residence on Wednesday morning, police said, in a case that has left investigators probing claims that he intended to take his own life after the killing.

The incident was reported at around 11 am within the limits of the Avalahalli police station. The accused, identified as Nageshwar Rao, has been taken into custody.

ALLEGED ATTACK AND ARREST

According to the police, Rao allegedly strangled his wife, Sandya Sri, using a towel inside their home. After the attack, he remained at the spot and contacted an acquaintance, who then alerted the police.

A team reached the residence shortly thereafter and took Rao into custody.

“He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and was distressed. He allegedly intended to take his life after the incident, which is why he attacked his wife. There appear to be no other major reasons,” said Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police Whitefield.

DEPRESSION ANGLE UNDER PROBE

Citing preliminary findings, a senior officer said Rao had been undergoing treatment for depression. Investigators are examining his medical history and other circumstances leading up to the incident.
