Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar (92) breathed her last in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday, February 6, 2022 morning.

A two-day national mourning will be observed on the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, official sources said on Sunday. The national flag will fly at half mast, they said, adding that a state funeral will be accorded to her.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the veteran singer left a void in our nation that can never be filled. “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”

“Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India.”Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said her golden voice is immortal and will continue to echo in the hearts of her fans.Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray mourned the death of Lata Mangeshkar and expressed that he is 'heartbroken'. A legacy that remains forever Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as the 'Nightingale of India,' began her career in singing to support her family after the death of her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar 1942. He was a classical singer and theatre actor. She got her first major break in Bollywood with the song Dil Mera Toda from the 1948 film Majboor. However, her song Aayega Aanewaala from the movie Mahal (1949) became her first major hit.Lata Mangeshkar is recipient of many national awards such as Bharat Ratna (2001), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989) and many more. She has a long list of accolades to her name.
