Going on a drunk, violent rampage, a Delhi Police head constable, attached to the special cell, allegedly shot two men, leaving one dead.
The confrontation occurred around 2 am in the Dwarka area. According to sources, the accused, identified as Neeraj, became enraged by the noise from a neighbourhood birthday party and rushed to the scene. He was under the influence of alcohol and got into a vigorous argument with the victim, Pandav Kumar, a Zomato delivery partner and his friends.
As the heated exchange of words escalated, the constable took out his gun and fired at Pandav from point-blank range. The bullet hit the victim on the left side of his chest. Krishan, one of the friends of Pandav, also sustained gunshot wounds on the left side of his abdomen.
“Pandav and Krishan both came to my son’s birthday party. While they were leaving, Neeraj arrived on the scene and had a fallout with both. He abused them, and when the matter escalated, he took out his gun and shot both of them,” said Rupesh Kumar, the eyewitness of the incident and the host of the birthday party.
Both the injured were taken to the Rao Tularam Hospital in the Jafarpur Kalan area. Upon their arrival, the doctors declared Pandav dead. Krishan was later shifted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Hari Nagar for advanced medical care.
The police sent Pandav’s body for a post-mortem, launched a manhunt and arrested the accused on Sunday evening (April 26), who had been on the run.
In addition to this, the police issued a statement explaining the whole incident. As per the statement, nearly seven people were on scooters and motorcycles and were talking to Rupesh after the party when Neeraj, who had been living in the area for 15 years, approached them. The group had a fall-out, and as a result, Neeraj opened fire at Pandav, targeting his chest.
A murder case has been registered against Neeraj under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and a further probe into the incident is underway.
