A woman was allegedly raped by a sleeper bus driver and conductor inside the vehicle in Delhi, police sources said on Thursday. The incident reportedly took place on May 12, following which both accused were arrested.
Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR at Rani Bagh Police Station under sections 64(1) (rape), 70(1) (gang rape) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on May 12.
"The accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway," a police source said, adding that the bus has been seized.
As per reports, the bus was reported to have tinted windows, which are not permitted, and allegedly lacked any emergency exit provisions.
Police said the woman was returning home after finishing work at a factory when the incident took place.
The survivor had reached near the B-Block bus stand in Saraswati Vihar when she approached one of the accused, who was standing near the sleeper bus, to ask for the time. The man allegedly pulled her into the vehicle where the assault took place. She was thrown out after the assault.
The woman, who is married and has three children, alleged that both the men raped her in turn, as per a PTI report.
Her statement was recorded by police, and an FIR was registered after her medical examination was conducted. The arrests were made soon after procedural formalities were completed.
The two accused — the bus driver and the conductor — are currently in custody. Police are questioning them and examining evidence collected from the bus. Forensic and medical reports are also expected to form part of the investigation.
Officials said they are verifying the sequence of events and gathering further details, including whether the bus was in operation at the time and if any other passengers were present during the alleged crime. A PTI report mentioned that the bus was stationed near the Nangloi Metro Station while the woman was attacked.
The case is being investigated by Delhi Police, and additional details are awaited as the inquiry progresses. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the survivor or the accused.
