Guwahati: Assam has become the first Indian state to remove all COVID-related restrictions imposed on people's movement, gathering and travel. As per the statement issued by the state government, the pre-pandemic life resumes Tuesday in the state with all schools set to open up and railway stations, airports in the city ending their compulsory COVID-19 testing on arrival mandate. Not just that, the state government has ordered a withdrawal of all Covid-19 restrictions with effect from Tuesday, except the one barring unvaccinated people from entering public places except hospitals, following an improvement in the situation. In an order issued on Monday, Assam Health & Family Welfare Principal Secretary Anurag Goel said the COVID-19 positivity rate is gradually decreasing in the state and the country.“Mandatory testing on arrival at airports, railway stations, road border points, etc shall be discontinued. However, symptomatic patients are requested to test for COVID-19 for diagnostic purposes voluntarily, at any recognised testing facility,” he said.Similarly, compulsory testing for any patient coming to hospitals for treatment will also be discontinued.Assam first went into lockdown on March 25 two years ago when the national lockdown was imposed.(With Inputs From Agencies)
