Commercial LPG cylinder rates have been increased from April 1, adding fresh pressure on businesses already facing a shortage of gas cylinders amid the Iran war. Restaurants and eateries, in particular, are expected to feel the impact.

The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen significantly, with an increase of Rs 195.50 in Delhi and Rs 218 in Kolkata, according to sources quoted by ANI. The revised rates have come into effect immediately. Hotels, restaurants and small businesses that depend on commercial LPG cylinders are likely to be affected by the hike.

Impact of West Asia conflict

The ongoing conflict in West Asia has led to instability in global oil markets due to supply disruptions and shortages. This energy crisis is now reflected in rising LPG cylinder prices.

Last month, the government had already increased the prices of 14.2 kg domestic cylinders by Rs 60 and 19 kg commercial cylinders by Rs 144.5. The latest revision is linked to the widening Iran conflict involving the US and Israel. Since the war began in late February, global oil prices have surged by nearly 50 per cent due to disruptions in energy supply chains.

Monthly price revision system

State-owned oil companies – Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum – revise LPG and ATF prices on the first day of every month. These changes are based on international benchmarks and exchange rates.
