Delhi Police have registered a case against online grocery delivery platform Blinkit after investigators found that button knives allegedly used in stabbing incidents in West Delhi’s Khyala area were purchased through the company’s online service.
The action follows the probe into a murder case involving a minor boy and another stabbing incident in the locality.
According to the police, the development emerged during the investigation into a fatal stabbing reported earlier this month.
The accused allegedly disclosed that the knives used in the crimes had been ordered through Blinkit.
To verify these claims, Delhi Police carried out a decoy operation by posing as customers and placing orders for button knives through the platform.
Officials said the knives were successfully delivered, corroborating the statements made by the accused.
Following this verification, the police registered an FIR against Blinkit.
Raids were conducted at several Blinkit dark stores across Delhi, where officers recovered more than a dozen button knives.
Police officials said a notice will soon be issued to the company seeking its response regarding the alleged sale of such items through its delivery network.
Further investigation was underway to determine the extent of distribution and whether similar purchases were linked to other criminal cases.
THE STABBING INCIDENT IN DELHI’s KHYALA
Two minors were apprehended in connection with the incident in which a minor boy died after being stabbed in an open space near a community centre in C Block, Khyala.
A PCR call regarding the incident was received, following which the police reached the spot and shifted the injured victim to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. The boy later succumbed to his injuries after sustaining a stab wound to the stomach.
During questioning, the apprehended Children in Conflict with Law (CCLs) told investigators that the incident occurred following a quarrel.
Police identified the victim as Sohail.
Officials also reviewed CCTV footage from areas surrounding the crime scene as part of the investigation.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the altercation between the victim and the two juveniles escalated into violence, leading to the fatal attack.
The victim is survived by two brothers.
Both accused minors are school dropouts and come from economically weaker backgrounds. One of them lives with his mother, who works as a domestic help after his father’s death, while the parents of the other minor are employed in a factory.
The juveniles were detained under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Khyala police station.
