The parents of a nine-year-old girl, who ended her life by jumping from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, have blamed a teacher for ignoring their complaints about their daughter being bullied. On November 1, the girl fell from a height of about 48 feet. Although she was rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead on arrival. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing her climbing the railing before her fatal jump.
The deceased student’s mother, Shivani, revealed that she had informed the teacher about the bullying, but no action was taken, as reported by India Today. Her father, Vijay, recounted an incident at a parent-teacher meeting where he saw a boy making gestures at her daughter. He mentioned this to the class teacher, who dismissed it, saying the girl needed to understand it was a co-ed school. The parents expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation.
This is not the first time the deceased student’s family has accused the school administration of inaction. A family member disclosed that the girl had been complaining about being bullied for almost a year, but her concerns were ignored. On the day of her death, CCTV footage showed her approaching the teacher four times to complain, yet no action was taken.
It is learnt that on the day the student took the extreme step, she was bullied by certain people, and the issue was ignored again, which led her to step out of her class. Further, the teacher has also admitted that she came to her and complained about some people disturbing her and using bad words.
Meanwhile, a family member of the deceased girl, Sahil, claimed that they have not received any update from police in the last seven days on the status of investigation. Sahil added that school principal and teachers have not approached them yet to apologise over the tragic incident. “The school principle and teachers have not even come to say sorry to us. We don’t think any progress is happening in this case, and worried that our child is not getting justice in this case," he stated.
The school authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the case. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that the area where the minor fell had been cleaned, with no visible bloodstains. The family has filed an FIR against the school administration, alleging that her death occurred under suspicious circumstances and calling for an investigation into the teaching staff’s role. The school administration has been accused of being uncooperative and silent on the matter.
The Joint Parents’ Association has also accused the school of destroying evidence and has demanded a fair investigation and strict action. Arvind Agarwal, the chief of the association, mentioned that they learned from the deceased’s uncle and other children that she had been harassed for one to two years.
