A nurse in Wales in the United Kingdom lost her job after hospital authorities learned about her affair with a patient who died during a sexual encounter with her. The nurse had admitted to the over-a-year-long affair with the deceased, who was found with his "trousers down" in the back of a car in the hospital parking lot during his last minutes.

The late-night tryst turned fatal and the nurse was alleged to have not called an ambulance at the time of his death and after he had collapsed during the intercourse. The nurse has been identified as 42-year-old Penelope Williams.

The patient was receiving dialysis treatment at the hospital in Wales and he died due to a cardiac arrest. The patient died from heart failure and chronic kidney disease triggered by a medical episode, The Times UK reported.

Also, the episode called for a detailed probe and a trial before a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) panel.

Reports suggest that Williams' colleagues had an idea about her affair with the now-dead patient and some of them had even warned her of dire consequences. But she apparently ignored the advice.

It is said that when medical emergency personnel arrived in the parking lot, they had found the patient partially naked and unresponsive.

The nurse not only breached the decorum of her profession but also failed as a medical practitioner for not having called an ambulance. Instead, she called a colleague after her partner collapsed in the car.

It is also said that she was pushed by her colleagues to call an ambulance but she even ignored that.

INITIAL LIES

As per Fox News, Williams initially told the police that she had merely gone to meet the patient after he had messaged her on Facebook about his health condition. She said that she went to see him only after he had said that he was feeling unwell.

The Telegraph stated that the nurse said she had spent only "30 to 45 minutes" in the back of the car and that they were "just talking".

During her trial before the panel, in February, she said that the patient started groaning suddenly and he had died. Later, she admitted to the relationship with the man and said that she had met up with him that night for a sexual encounter. It was during a later hearing in May that she admitted to her ties with the deceased, which resulted in her expulsion from duties.

As per reports, the hospital held that the nurse had "brought the nursing profession into disrepute".

"Williams's actions were significant departures from the standards expected of a registered nurse, and are fundamentally incompatible with her remaining on the register," the hospital board ruled. The hospital further held that allowing Williams to continue practising as a nurse would undermine public confidence in the profession.
