A jawan posted at DIG Range office in Ludhiana died by suicide after shooting himself in the head while he was on duty on Tuesday. He reportedly used his service revolver to shoot himself.
The deceased has been identified as ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) Teerth Singh, 50. He was a resident of Mullanpur Dakha (Ludhiana) and had been serving in the office for the past four to five years.
Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot, collected evidence, and sent the body for post-mortem. The police are currently investigating the reasons behind the suicide. The deceased is survived by three children, all of whom live in Canada. His local relatives and family members abroad have been informed.
According to his colleagues, ASI Teerth Singh was working as a miscellaneous storekeeper. He had reported for his regular night duty, and around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, he shot himself under mysterious circumstances using his service revolver. The bullet hit his head, resulting in his immediate death. Senior police officials reached the scene soon after and began an investigation.
As of now, the reason behind Teerth Singh’s suicide remains unknown. The police are gathering information from family members and colleagues to determine possible causes. An investigation is underway.
