The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for strict action following the death of a worker on the set of Love & War, a film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta raised concerns over alleged lapses in workplace safety and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to the association, the worker, identified as Chandradhari Singh Yadav, died while working on the film set. AICWA alleged that mandatory safety measures were not adequately implemented despite the film being a large-scale production featuring actors Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt. The association stated that stricter adherence to safety protocols could potentially have helped prevent the tragedy.
The letter, which was also shared on AICWA’s social media accounts, highlighted the impact of the worker’s death on his family. Yadav is survived by his wife and two minor daughters. AICWA noted that he was the sole earning member of the family and said his death has caused significant emotional and financial hardship.
In its demands, AICWA urged authorities to register a First Information Report (FIR) against producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the production house, and any other individuals found responsible following an investigation. The association also called for an independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and a comprehensive safety audit of the film set.
Additionally, AICWA sought ₹1 crore in compensation for the deceased worker’s family, along with employment or financial assistance for his widow. The association further requested long-term support for the education, welfare, and future security of the worker’s two daughters.
The letter also recommended suspending shooting activities at the concerned location until safety compliance is verified by competent authorities. It called for mandatory safety audits and stricter enforcement of workplace safety regulations across film sets in Maharashtra to prevent similar incidents in the future.
At the time of writing, there has been no public response from Sanjay Leela Bhansali or the makers of Love & War regarding AICWA’s allegations and demands. Authorities are yet to announce any action on the association’s requests.
