Santosh, a pro-Hindu activist, who volunteered for the distribution of akshata (ceremonial rice) ahead of the consecration of the Ram idol in Ayodhya on January 22, was allegedly attacked in Karnataka's Puttur, on Monday evening.
Santosh, responsible for akshata distribution in Mundur village, was assaulted on his way home.
Sources revealed that locals, led by one Dhananjay and his team, opposed Santosh's distribution in their area. Santosh's mother, who tried to intervene, was attacked.
The injured mother-son duo has been admitted to a private hospital in Puttur. The BJP has been demanding action against the accused.
