A nine-year-old girl died of a heart attack while she was opening her lunch box at school in Rajasthan’s Sikar, officials said Wednesday.

The victim was a student of class 4 at Adarsh Vidya Mandir School. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, around 11 am, during the school’s lunch break.

According to school principal Nandkishore, all the students were eating lunch inside their classrooms when the girl suddenly fell unconscious while opening her tiffin box.

“It happened around 11 am on Tuesday. She dropped her lunchbox and collapsed spilling her food onto the floor. We were all on school grounds at the time, so we rushed her to the hospital," the principal said, adding that for kids to faint in school is not uncommon.

The school staff immediately rushed the unconscious child to the Dantaramgarh Community Health Center (CHC). Doctors provided initial treatment and decided to refer the girl to SK Hospital in Sikar for further care.

However, while being shifted into the ambulance, she suffered another heart attack and died on the spot.
