Eight students from Tamil Nadu were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a lorry parked on a highway in Kerala’s Thrissur district, police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 11:40 pm on Friday in Kaipamangalam. CCTV footage shows the car speeding along an almost empty National Highway-66 before crashing into the lorry, which is not visible in the footage. A puff of dust can be seen rising immediately after the impact.

Preliminary information suggested that the victims were students of PSM Engineering College in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul.

The car, which had a Tamil Nadu registration, was travelling from the Guruvayur side towards Kodungallur when it crashed into the lorry, which was parked at a diversion on an under-construction stretch of the highway.
