2 cars, 4 cities, new SIM card: How Pune teen driver's father tried to evade cops

Vishal Agarwal, father of minor who crashed his Porsche into a bike, hatched an elaborate escape plan to misdirect cops and evade arrest.

Pune Police arrested Vishal Agarwal, a real estate developer, in connection with the tragic accident involving his 17-year-old son. The incident, which took place in Pune, saw the minor crashing his Porsche into a bike, resulting in the death of two individuals. Agarwal was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area.

Following the accident, an FIR was lodged against Vishal Agarwal, and the accused immediately made escape plans.

While on the run, Agarwal first drove to his properties in Pune, including his farmhouse in Daund. He then travelled to Kolhapur, where he met a friend.

From Kolhapur, Agarwal sent his driver and car towards Mumbai to mislead the authorities, while he himself travelled to Sambhajinagar in his friend's car. Throughout his flight from cops, he misinformed his family about his whereabouts, claiming to be headed to Mumbai.

Agarwal switched off his primary phone and began using a new number to avoid tracking. His movements were eventually traced through the GPS of a friend's car.

Pune Crime Branch teams used technical surveillance and GPS tracking to locate Agarwal. They analysed CCTV footage and intercepted messages sent by Agarwal to his family. Ultimately, they discovered him hiding in a small lodge in Sambhajinagar.

Agarwal’s 17-year-old son was involved in a car accident in Pune that killed two people in the wee hours of Sunday. The teenager had consumed alcohol at one bar, and then moved on to another on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, before the deadly car crash.

Two techies - Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta - died after their motorbike was hit by the Porsche. While Ashwini died on the spot, Aneesh was shifted to a city hospital, where he died soon after.

The 17-year-old was granted bail by a district court within 14 hours of his detention, sparking massive outrage.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) in the case, the teenager, along with his friends, first partied at Cozy Bar between 9.30 pm to 12 am and then moved to Black Bar, where they partied from 12.00 am to 1 am on Sunday, before the car crash.
