US-Iran War: As tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate, mediators have proposed a 10-day halt to the strikes and urged the revival of the interim ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the conflict, Reuters reported. The interim deal was reached last month and has now crumbled as both sides continue to trade fire.
This comes after Tehran stated on Monday that diplomatic exchanges with Washington via mediators were underway despite US military strikes on the Islamic Republic.
“We have been informed by mediators, we have received messages — without going into details — but the main point is that the diplomatic apparatus has been active in recent days and ideas have been conveyed to us by certain mediators," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a press conference in Tehran, AFP reported.
US-Iran Trade Fire
Earlier in the day, the US attacked several locations in Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr, home to the country’s only civilian nuclear plant, according to state media. “A few minutes ago, several locations in Bushehr city were hit by American enemy’s projectiles," said Bushehr governor Mohammad Mozaffari, as quoted by official state news agency IRNA.
While Iran carried out retaliatory attacks in several Gulf states, including Bahrain and Kuwait. Explosions were heard in the Bahraini capital Manama on Monday morning after air raid sirens were triggered.
‘Won’t Allow Hormuz Strait To Be Used To Threaten Iran’
Further, Iran said on Monday that it would not allow its adversaries to use the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to threaten the country’s security, as tensions with the US continue over the future of the crucial waterway.
“We must not allow this waterway to be misused again to threaten Iran’s security and national interests," Baghaei said at the press conference. He added that Iran was “determined to take the necessary measures" to safeguard its sovereignty.
