Four people, including three members of a family, were injured after a gas cylinder exploded inside a house in Mumbai. The powerful blast, which occurred at around 7 pm on Thursday, triggered a fire and the incident was captured on a CCTV camera.

According to preliminary information, repair work was underway on a gas stove at the Gawade family’s residence when the cylinder suddenly exploded, engulfing the room in flames.

The explosion was so intense that vibrations were felt in adjoining homes, and an elderly man sitting on the veranda outside was hurled to the ground by the pressure wave. He escaped with minor injuries.

CCTV footage circulating shows the moment of the blast, with flames and debris bursting out of the dwelling and bystanders scrambling for safety.

The four injured—identified as Sumati Ramesh Gawade (65), Avantika Ajay Gawade (45), Yash Gawade (10), and gas mechanic Javed Abdul Shaikh (30)—were rushed to a hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Teams from police and the fire brigade reached the spot soon after being alerted.

Authorities have begun an investigation to determine what went wrong during the repair work and whether there was a leak or handling lapse that led to the explosion.
