US President Donald Trump has announced a “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate the federal government’s efforts on advanced artificial intelligence and maintain America’s global leadership in the growing technology.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the body would work to protect Americans’ interests and improve their lives. The announcement follows what he described as a White House accord in which leading technology companies affirmed their responsibilities to the public.
Trump described superintelligence as a technology that “many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet”.
The force will coordinate government engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and companies developing superintelligence.
Trump said it would be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.
The group will report to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
