At least four people were killed and around 20 others injured in a school shooting at a secondary school in Kahramanmaraş Province, with the attacker later taking his own life, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at Ayşer Çalık Secondary School, where an armed student opened fire, triggering panic and an immediate emergency response. Ambulances and medical teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist the injured.
Provincial governor Mükerrem Ünlüer confirmed that a teacher and three students were among those killed in the attack. Providing details, he said the shooter was a student who brought firearms believed to belong to his father in his backpack. The assailant entered two classrooms and opened fire randomly, causing multiple casualties.
Security forces swiftly secured the school premises and surrounding areas as authorities launched an investigation into the motive and circumstances of the attack.
Initial reports had indicated a lower casualty count, but updated figures suggest that at least 20 people were injured. Officials have not released a final confirmed tally.
The incident comes just a day after another shooting in Turkey in which a gunman wounded 16 people before taking his own life.
Authorities said further details will be released as the investigation continues.
