US President Donald Trump, still fuming over missing out on the Nobel Peace Prize despite repeatedly claiming to have stopped multiple wars, has now set his sights on another coveted honour — the Pulitzer Prize.
At a rally in South Carolina on Wednesday, Trump ranted that he had been denied both awards and insisted he deserved recognition for his writing as well.
Speaking at T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton, where he was addressing supporters to shore up his Republican base, Trump took aim at the journalists who won Pulitzer Prizes for their coverage of the Russia investigation, claiming their reporting was inaccurate.
“I didn't get the Nobel Prize. I didn't get the Pulitzer. I should have gotten the Pulitzer for writing, too,” Trump told the crowd.
“The people that got it shouldn't have gotten it, you know? They got a Pulitzer Prize for their accurate and wonderful writing on the subject of Russia, Russia, Russia. But they had it wrong. They all had it wrong,” he added.
Trump then returned to his familiar grievance over the Nobel Peace Prize, reiterating that he deserved the honour for stopping multiple wars.
His latest remarks add another chapter to his repeated complaints about not receiving the Nobel, with the president now arguing that his writing also merits one of journalism's most prestigious awards.
INTERNET HAS A FIELD DAY
Trump's claim to the Pulitzer quickly became fodder for online mockery, with social media users questioning his writing credentials and ridiculing his criticism of journalists.
“A man who couldn't write a children's book thinks he deserves the Pulitzer?” one commenter wrote.
Another took aim at Trump's speaking style, saying, “Trump wants a Pulitzer for writing? The man treats the English language like a hostage and his sentences need a search party.”
A third commenter on X wrote, “As if he meant to say ‘Pulitzer’. The orange loon’s mind is mush and his attempts to save face are beyond ridiculous.”
2026 PULITZER PRIZE WINNERS
The 2026 Pulitzer Prizes included awards for reporting on the Trump administration and its policies, among other subjects.
The Washington Post was recognised for its reporting on the administration's overhaul of federal agencies, which documented the human impact of the cuts and their consequences for the country.
The Wall Street Journal was honoured for investigative stories that helped prompt the release of millions of Justice Department files concerning Jeffrey Epstein's powerful network.
The Chicago Tribune was recognised for its coverage of the Trump administration's militarised immigration sweep in Chicago, describing the impact of the operation and how it united residents in resistance. The Pulitzer Board moved the award to the Local Reporting category.
