US-Iran Peace Talks Updates: After high-profile Islamabad peace talks were called off by US President Donald Trump last week, fresh signs have emerged with the engagement of the two sides behind the scenes to end the stalemate.

Tehran has given Washington a new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, Axios reported, citing a U.S. official and two other sources. Iran also proposed to postpone nuclear negotiations for a later stage.

The US President is likely to hold a Situation Room meeting with his top national security and foreign policy team on Monday.

  • US President Donald Trump has said a shooting at a Washington media dinner would not divert him from the Iran war. “It’s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know," Trump added.

  • Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is headed to Russia to discuss the status of US negotiations, according to state media. Araghchi met key mediators in Pakistan and Oman last weekend.

  • Araghchi said earlier that it’s not clear if Washington is “truly serious about diplomacy" after Trump cancelled his envoys’ Pakistan visit.

  • Even after the ceasefire was extended, Israel struck at least four different locations in Lebanon. This came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his military to attack Hezbollah following alleged ceasefire breaches.

  • Last week, Trump ordered his envoys not to travel to Pakistan for talks with Iranian officials on ending the war. “There is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.’ Nobody knows who is in charge, including them," he said, adding that the move did not mean a restart of the war.
