Mohan Babu, a 47-year-old Indian-origin family doctor in southeast England has been convicted of sexually assaulting three women who were under his care. One of the victims is battling cancer.

Babu, a former general practitioner at the Staunton Surgery in Havant, Hampshire, has been found guilty on four counts of sexual assault after a recent trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Babu, who worked alongside his wife, also a general practitioner at the same clinic, was released on conditional bail pending sentencing on April 12, according to the digital news portal The News.

The court heard that the sexual assaults took place between September 2019 and July 2021, with the youngest victim being a 19-year-old woman. The assaults took place within the premises of the Staunton Surgery, where Babu was employed.

During the trial, it was revealed that several complaints had been lodged against Babu regarding his conduct, including inappropriate touching and making "creepy" comments to patients.

While five other women, including a receptionist at the clinic, had complained about his behaviour, criminal proceedings were not initiated on their complaints.

Prosecutor Miranda Moore KC described how Babu targeted "vulnerable" women after joining the surgery as a locum doctor in April 2018.

The first complaint about Babu's actions was in August 2019, which was about 16 months after joining on his wife's recommendation. Then, another complaint came soon after.

Babu had been warned many times about his behaviour before these incidents.

Moore explained how Babu misused his job by doing tests that weren't needed, saying inappropriate things, and even hurting patients.

One patient, who had terminal pancreatic cancer, said Babu behaved badly during their talks from May to August 2019.

After people complained, Babu stopped working at Staunton Surgery in July 2021. Even though he said he didn't do anything wrong, he was found guilty on four counts of sexual assault against three women. But he wasn't found guilty of three more counts involving two other women.
