India on Friday assigned official names to 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), in what officials described as a response to China's repeated attempts to rename locations in the border state.
The four passes are Dzo La, Riza La, Pukur La and Thag La, while the list also includes Sambho Sarovar lake and the Sher-e-Thapa Memorial.
In April this year, after China announced names for 23 locations in Arunachal Pradesh, the Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the move, stating that assigning "fictitious names" does not alter the reality on the ground. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India categorically rejects such attempts and urged China to avoid actions that undermine efforts to improve bilateral ties.
