Australian authorities are investigating an online threat directed at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his scheduled visit to Melbourne on July 9, according to Australian media reports.
The alleged threat appeared in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the "Melbourne Meets Modi" community event, which is set to take place at Marvel Stadium during the Prime Minister's visit. The comment, posted from an account using the name Abu Mustafa (translated), contained a threat suggesting harm to the Prime Minister during the event.
According to The Australia Today, the matter was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on the same day the comment appeared online. The report said investigators have identified an IP address linked to the social media post and are examining the circumstances surrounding the message, including whether any criminal offences may have been committed.
The Australian Federal Police has not publicly commented on the investigation. Media reports in Australia noted that threats against visiting heads of government are treated seriously by law enforcement agencies. Security arrangements for high-profile international visits typically involve coordination between the Australian Federal Police, state police, and specialist protective security units.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Australia as part of an official engagement that includes bilateral meetings and community events, including the Melbourne gathering.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced any arrests or disclosed further details regarding the online threat.
