After mediation offer, US says it supports direct talks between India and Pakistan

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Sunday and discussed the India-Pakistan issue, according to US Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce. Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and keeping communication channels open between the two countries.

Secretary Rubio reiterated the US' support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral communication.

This comes after Rubio on Saturday had a phone conversation with External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. "Had a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning. India's approach has always been measured and responsible, and remains so," Jaishankar said on Saturday.
