A telecommunications official was killed and two others were injured in a reported US strike on Farur Island, near the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Lengeh, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The report said the casualties occurred during airstrikes carried out on Sunday evening.

Fresh Strikes Intensify US-Iran Conflict

The reported strike comes as military tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate following a series of exchanges over the past week.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest round of strikes targeted multiple Iranian military facilities, including missile and drone infrastructure, coastal surveillance systems and naval capabilities.

Iranian state media reported that the attacks also affected areas including Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and several islands in the Persian Gulf.

Strategic Island Near Strait Of Hormuz

Farur Island is located off Iran’s southern coast in Hormozgan province, close to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes through which roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments pass.

In recent days, multiple explosions have been reported across southern coastal areas, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Qeshm Island and Bandar Lengeh, as US military operations in the region intensified.

Iranian authorities have reported damage to infrastructure and casualties in parts of southern Iran, while the United States has maintained that its strikes are aimed at military targets linked to threats against international shipping.

Where Is Farur Island Located?

Farur Island is a small Iranian island in Hormozgan province, situated in the Persian Gulf near the port city of Bandar Lengeh. The island lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime passage connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, with nearly one-fifth of global oil shipments passing through it every day. Because of its location, the surrounding region is home to key Iranian military installations, coastal surveillance systems and shipping routes, making it a focal point during periods of heightened tensions in the Gulf.

Farur Island is also part of Iran’s network of islands that overlook vital maritime lanes used by commercial tankers travelling between the Middle East and global markets. Any military activity in or around the island is closely watched because of its proximity to one of the world’s busiest energy corridors. Investigation Underway

While Mehr News Agency reported the death of the telecommunications official and injuries to two others on Farur Island, the reported casualties have not been independently confirmed by US officials.

Iranian authorities have also not released the identities of those injured or provided further details about the facilities allegedly targeted on the island. The incident is among several being reported as military operations continue across southern Iran.
