YouTube has removed the controversial India’s Got Latent episode, hosted by Samay Raina and featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, following government intervention and a legal complaint. The video is now unavailable in India.
The episode, in which Ranveer Allahbadia made controversial remarks and posed inappropriate questions, was initially available as members-only content. After the public outcry, the controversial parts were edited out. However, YouTube has now removed the episode entirely.
This removal of the episode was carried out under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2008, which grants the government the authority to restrict online content in the interest of India’s sovereignty, defense, and public order. The directive was issued to both telecom service providers and the concerned platform, YouTube in this case. Failure to comply with the order could have resulted in imprisonment for up to seven years.
Confirming the development, Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, stated that the latest episode of India’s Got Latent has been made “unavailable" in India following a government directive.
Amid the uproar surrounding his YouTube show India’s Got Latent, Samay Raina has maintained complete silence. No apology, no statement – nothing. Initially, he edited out the controversial segments, hoping to slip under the radar.
Ranveer Allahbadia, who asked a contestant, “Would you watch your parents have sex?" has issued a public apology amid mounting backlash.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry," said Allahbadia in a video he posted on his social media accounts.
Addressing the backlash, he continued, “Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform and obviously this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context, justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology."
Allahbadia has since removed all content related to India’s Got Latent from his social media handles. The only thing left is his apology video, posted just hours after the public backlash.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed by the Guwahati Police, naming host Samay Raina, YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, and ‘The Rebel Kid’ Apoorva Makhija.
