TVK chief and actor Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has moved a family court seeking divorce, alleging infidelity after more than 25 years of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in August 1999, have two children.
The divorce petition has been filed before the Chengalpattu family court, which has issued a notice to Vijay, directing him to appear in person on April 20. The court has taken cognisance of the plea and fixed the matter for further hearing on the same date.
According to the petition, Sangeetha has accused Vijay of being involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress, stating that she became aware of the alleged relationship in 2021.
It added that this discovery prompted her decision to seek legal separation.
The plea alleged that despite assurances from Vijay that the relationship would be ended, it allegedly continued without remorse.
These allegations form the core of Sangeetha’s divorce plea, which has been filed under Sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.
The law permits dissolution of marriage on grounds including adultery and mental cruelty, both of which have been cited in the petition. The case is presently under consideration before the district court, and a final outcome is yet to be decided.
Sangeetha, the daughter of a Tamil Nadu–based industrialist, was reportedly a long-time admirer of Vijay before their marriage on August 25, 1999.
The wedding was held on a grand scale and solemnised through both Hindu and Christian ceremonies.
