Yash’s much-awaited Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has opened strongly at the Indian box office, recording substantial collections on its first day despite mixed reviews and discussion around its violent and intimate content. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film arrived in cinemas on August 26 and benefited from the Onam holiday, strong pre-release anticipation and extensive advance bookings.
The film continued its upward trajectory through the day. By 7 pm, Toxic had reportedly collected ₹82.88 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk data. The Hindi version emerged as the biggest contributor at that stage, accounting for around ₹48 crore net, while the Kannada version remained below ₹20 crore. The Telugu-dubbed version also showed healthy performance, whereas the Tamil and Malayalam versions were comparatively slower.
Toxic is also being compared with some of the biggest Indian releases of recent years. Reports suggest that the film moved past the opening-day collections of Dhurandhar during the morning shows and subsequently crossed the figures associated with films such as Pathaan, Animal and Jawan as the day progressed. Trade expectations have consequently placed the film's first-day India net collection in the ₹90 crore range, although the final figure will depend on late-evening and night shows as well as revised reporting.
The film’s performance comes despite a mixed critical response. Some viewers have praised Yash’s screen presence, the film’s visual scale and its action sequences, while others have criticised aspects of the narrative and its depiction of violence and relationships. The film has also attracted attention for its intimate scenes and imagery involving women, which have become a subject of online discussion.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film is being released in multiple languages as part of its pan-India strategy, with the original Kannada version competing alongside dubbed Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam editions.
