Pop star Taylor Swift has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the youngest woman to receive the honour at the age of 36.

The induction took place during the Hall of Fame's ceremony in New York on Thursday. Swift joins a select group of songwriters recognised for their contributions to music and songwriting. With the achievement, Swift surpasses the previous record held by Carole Bayer Sager, who was inducted at the age of 43 in 1987. Other notable female inductees, including Mariah Carey and Dolly Parton, were inducted later in their careers. The youngest person ever inducted remains Stevie Wonder, who entered the Hall of Fame at age 32 in 1983.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame requires artists to be eligible for induction 20 years after the release of their first commercially available song. Swift's debut single, Tim McGraw, was released in June 2006, making her eligible this year.

Over the past two decades, Swift has built a career spanning multiple genres, including country, pop and folk. She has released 12 studio albums and won 14 Grammy Awards, including a record four Album of the Year honours. Her commercial success includes global sales estimated at more than 250 million album-equivalent units.

Her recently concluded Eras Tour became one of the highest-grossing concert tours in history, generating an estimated $2 billion in revenue. Swift also holds several Billboard chart records, including the most top-10 songs by a female artist.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame cited Swift's versatility as a songwriter as a key reason for her induction. In its statement, the organisation praised her ability to write across different musical styles while continuing to evolve artistically throughout her career.

Swift attended the ceremony in New York, where she appeared on the red carpet ahead of the event. Other inductees this year included singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, producer Walter Afanasieff, and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of the rock band KISS.

The induction marks another milestone in Swift's career and recognises her influence as one of the most successful songwriters of her generation.
