Comedian Samay Raina and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia are set to share the screen again, this time on a World Laughter Day special episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The episode brings the two together after Samay, in his stand-up special Still Alive, revisited a controversy involving Ranveer on India's Got Latent, a show the comedian hosted.
World Laughter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May worldwide every year, though the episode will be aired on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The promotional clip leans into the history Samay and Ranveer have shared lately, which could potentially set up a comically awkward reunion on Kapil's show.
Alongside Samay, Ranveer and host Kapil, the episode will feature regulars Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Archana Puran Singh.
In an Instagram reel shared ahead of the episode, Samay looks at the camera and says he is finally coming to his "favourite show" this Saturday. He then says nobody has told him who he will be sharing the stage with. Ranveer walks in at that moment and starts doing his signature "woo!" in Samay's face, to which the latter reacts with mock exasperation, saying: "No way, bro," and walks away.
In an official statement, Kapil Sharma said, “Humare show ko audience se jo pyaar mila hai, usse yahi motivation milta hai ki unhe fresh aur entertaining content diya jaaye. World Laughter Day ke mauke par Netflix ke saath ek special episode plan kiya hai -- natural, fun aur full of laughter. Is baar Samay aur Ranveer bhi apne andaaz mein jud kar is celebration ko aur engaging bana rahe hain. Bas itna hi chahte hain ki log humare saath hass kar is din ko enjoy karein.”
(Translated: "The love our show has received from our audience motivates us to continue providing them with fresh and entertaining content. For World Laughter Day, we've planned a special episode with Netflix — natural, fun, and full of laughter. This time, Samay and Ranveer are also joining in their own way, making the celebration even more engaging. We just want people to laugh along with us and enjoy the day."
The appearance on Kapil's show comes in the wake of the strong response to Samay's recent stand-up act, Still Alive, which marked his comeback after the India's Got Latent row.
On Still Alive, Samay said the India's Got Latent episode at the centre of the backlash had seen Ranveer asking the controversial parents-related question eight times during the recording. He said that when he watched the edit, he felt Ranveer had made several inappropriate remarks, so he left in one instance and removed the rest. From his point of view, he said, 99 per cent of the inappropriate content had been edited out.
Samay also spoke about the fallout from the controversy. He referred to the guilt he felt when fellow comedians received death threats and legal notices, and spoke about the worry it caused his parents.
Even so, he later indicated that he was open to working with Ranveer again. During an Instagram Ask Me Anything session, he said they would collaborate soon and added that India's Got Latent would return for a second season after a break.
Ranveer appeared to respond indirectly in a recent paparazzi video. When he was asked about Samay, he said, "Samay, kaun Samay? Kya Samay?" before adding, "It's our time, my time is now."
The controversy began after Ranveer made a remark on Samay's India's Got Latent that many viewers found offensive. He asked a contestant whether they would rather watch their parents have sex every day for the rest of their life or join in once to make it stop forever. The clip went viral and triggered widespread backlash online.
Multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer and the show's producers, and the row also drew in Samay and other panellists. The National Commission for Women intervened, after which Ranveer submitted a written apology. The Supreme Court later granted him interim protection from arrest while also criticising the remarks as vulgar.
Now, that shared history has become the peg for the World Laughter Day special of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The episode is set to stream on Netflix on May 2 at 8 pm.
