Saif Ali Khan attacked with knife during burglary attempt, undergoes surgery

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed two to three times in his home in the early hours ofThursday by an unidentified man who entered his Bandra home in a burglary attempt.

After the attack, Saif was admitted to Mumbai'sLilavati Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.

According to the police, the accused entered Saif Ali Khan's home and both of them had a fight during which the actor was stabbed. Some family members of the actor were present in the house at the time of the incident, an official said.

A probe was launched by the Mumbai Police to trace the accused and ensure his arrest.

"An unidentified person intruded into the residence of actor Saif Ali Khan. The actor and the intruder fought. The actor was injured and is being treated. An investigation is going on," Mumbai Police's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dixit Gedam, said while speaking to the media on the issue.

A statement was also released from Saif Ali Khan's team where they requested the "media andfans to be patient".

"There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khans residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation," a statement by Saif Ali Khan's team read.
