Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, whose remarks on a YouTube show sparked controversy, admitted to making a "mistake" in his statement before Maharashtra Cyber, officials said.
Allahbadia is under investigation by Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai police for comments made on comedian Samay Raina’s show India's Got Latent. He made crude comments about parents and sex, leading to widespread backlash and multiple FIRs.
On Monday, both Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani recorded their statements in an obscenity case. Officials said that Allahbadia acknowledged using inappropriate language and claimed he attended the show only as a favour to his friend Samay Raina. He did not take any money for his presence on the show.
Ranveer Allahbadia found himself at the center of a huge controversy after he made an objectionable joke involving parents at the latest 'India's Got Latent' episode. Chanchalani was also among the panelists present on the show, alongside Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija.
Authorities have also questioned influencer Apoorva Makhija and summoned actor Rakhi Sawant for February 27. Meanwhile, Samay Raina’s statement is yet to be recorded.
Additionally, the Assam police are also investigating an obscenity case against Allahbadia and others.
