Marvel Studios has unveiled the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, offering fans their clearest look yet at the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film marks the return of the Avengers to the big screen for the first time since Avengers: Endgame (2019) and introduces one of Marvel Comics' most iconic villains, Doctor Doom, into the MCU.

First Trailer Released

The newly released trailer brings together heroes from across multiple Marvel franchises, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. It also features the first proper look at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, following his surprise casting announcement.

Release Date

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 18, 2026.

What Is the Movie About?

According to Marvel Studios' official synopsis, the film follows heroes from three separate universes who are forced onto a dangerous collision course while confronting an unprecedented existential threat.

While Marvel has not revealed full plot details, the trailer suggests the story will continue the Multiverse Saga and bring together characters introduced across recent MCU films and Disney+ series.

Star-Studded Cast

Marvel has assembled one of the franchise's largest ensemble casts for Avengers: Doomsday. Confirmed cast members include:

  • Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom

  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor

  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman

    and many more...

The film also brings back several actors associated with the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Kelsey Grammer (Beast) and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

How It Fits Into the MCU

Avengers: Doomsday will be the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although it continues ongoing storylines from the Multiverse Saga, Marvel says the film is designed to be accessible to new viewers.

For audiences looking to catch up beforehand, key films include Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four: First Steps. The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing on July 31, is also expected to connect to the events leading into Avengers: Doomsday.

The movie will serve as a direct lead-in to Avengers: Secret Wars, currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.

Russo Brothers Return

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Their return marks their first MCU directing project since Endgame.

Robert Downey Jr.'s New Marvel Role

After portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man from 2008 to 2019, Academy Award-winning actor Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU in an entirely different role. He will play Victor von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom, one of Marvel Comics' most celebrated villains.

While the character briefly appeared in Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel has yet to reveal the full backstory or motivations of its MCU version of Doctor Doom.

Ticket Sales

Advance ticket bookings for Infinity Vision-certified theatres opened on July 20. Infinity Vision is Disney's premium large-format exhibition experience, designed to offer enhanced picture quality, larger screens and immersive sound.

With its multiversal storyline, returning fan-favourite heroes and the introduction of Doctor Doom, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel Studios' biggest theatrical releases in recent years.
