Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Super, and Sand Land, has passed away. The legendary manga artist was 68 years old. The heartbreaking news of his death was shared on the Dragon Ball website. The statement revealed that Akira Toriyama died of an acute subdural hematoma. The news of his death has saddened the fans of the Dragon Ball franchise and the anime community.

“Dear Friends and Partners, We are deeply saddened to inform you that manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma. He was in age of 68,” the statement read. “It’s our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm. Also, he would have many more things to achieve,” they added.

“However, he had left many manga titles and works of art to this world. Thanks to the support of so many people around the world, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come,” the team said.

“We inform you of this sad news, with gratefulness for your kindness during his lifetime. Funeral service was held with his family and very few relatives. Following his wishes for tranquility, we respectfully inform you that we would not accept flowers, condolences gifts, visiting, offerings and others. Also, we ask you to refrain from conduction interviews with his family,” the statement read.

“Future plans for a commemorative gathering is not decided, we will let you know when it’s confirmed. We deeply thank you for your understanding and support as always,” the letter concluded.

Fans took to X and mourned his demise. “Rest in Peace Akira Toriyama, you’ll forever be missed,” a fan wrote. “You were a legend. Thank you and Rest in peace ❤️,” added another. “Wow. This man was a legend, True one of a kind talent that influenced so many lives. Shocked and sad, but his legacy will live on for thousands of years to come I’m sure,” a third social media user wrote.

Akira Toriyama was born in Japan’s Nagoya, Aichi, in 1955. He first introduced Dragon Ball to the world in 1984 through which he introduced the world to Goku and his friends. The manga has been adapted for the screen and gained immense popular over the past few decades.
