Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh addressed pro-Khalistan protesters during his concert in Canada and defended his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying his intention was not personal promotion but to bring global attention to Punjab. He said he has consistently used every platform available to speak about Punjab.
During his May 2026 Aura tour stop in Calgary, Canada, Dosanjh addressed protesters waving flags and disrupting the show. Brushing aside the interruption, he told them, “Jitne jhande dikhane, dikhao” (show as many flags as you want), while reiterating his focus on taking Punjab to global platforms like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Dosanjh also said that he and his team had been actively involved in relief efforts for flood-affected regions in Punjab. Addressing the crowd, he said, "We love Punjab. Whichever platform I go to, I always talk about Punjab. I always said that the national media doesn't talk about us. The channels I go to, I talk about Punjab. I didn't talk about my songs. I didn't promote anything. I went to that channel for the sake of Punjab."
The crowd responded with cheers, and the moment quickly went viral.
Dosanjh recently reflected on the historic 1914 Komagata Maru incident during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, after drawing a crowd of over 50,000 people to his concert in Vancouver, Canada. He said the show carried deep emotional significance because of its connection to the history of Indians in the country.
He had begun his Aura Tour at BC Place in Vancouver on April 23, returning to the venue two years after delivering what Billboard Canada described as the largest Punjabi music concert held outside India. Speaking on the talk show, he said that more than 50,000 Indians attended the event.
Explaining why the moment meant so much to him, the Lover singer said the stadium is located just a couple of kilometres from the site linked to the Komagata Maru incident, when Indian migrants were denied entry into Canada. He pointed to the contrast between that moment in history and the present, saying that thousands had now gathered in the same city to celebrate.
Meanwhile, Dosanjh is preparing for his new film Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali. Also starring Sharvari and Vedang Raina, the film is set to release in theatres on June 12.
Dosanjh's recent appearances in Canada and on US television have drawn attention both for his remarks on Punjab and for his reference to the Komagata Maru incident, while he has maintained that his international appearances are aimed at putting Punjab on a wider platform.
