Pakistani musician Haniya Aslam, of the band Zeb-Haniya, died on Sunday, August 11. Her cousin and former band member, Zeb Bangash, confirmed the news on social media with a heartbreaking post. She reportedly died of a cardiac arrest.
In a post shared on Monday morning, Zeb simply posted an old picture of Haniya, and wrote "Hanini" in the caption. Many fellow artistes and fans flocked to the comments section to express their shock and offer condolences to Zeb and their family. "Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun all my love to you Zeb. Your names are forever entwined in music and memory for me. So much love (sic)," wrote one, while another said, "I’m at a loss for words will always have a place in my heart Now we know an angel we can call by name..rest in peace sweet Haniya (sic)."
Haniya was considered one of the finest Pakistani musicians. She worked with Zeb on many successful compositions as part of the 'Zeb and Haniya' band. However, she moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue a solo career and learn more about music. The duo performed in 'Coke Studio' Pakistan, and rendered a popular number, 'Chal Diye'.
She also worked as a sound designer for the 2016 Pakistani drama short film 'Lala Begum'. Haniya created music for the 2016 romantic Pakistani film 'Dobara Phir Se'. She represented Pakistan's youth music in the world, and also co-authored one of the few books written about contemporary youth music in her country.
Haniya's death is a great loss to the Pakistani music industry.
