On 7th March 1987, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar created history as he became the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in the history of Test cricket.Sunil Gavaskar managed to score his 10,000th Test run in his 124th match which was played against Pakistan in Ahmedabad.Gavaskar breached the 10,000 mark when he scored the 58th run in that innings and the match had to be halted for a while when he reached the milestone. The Ahmedabad crowd breached the barriers at the stadium to congratulate Gavaskar on his achievement.Gavaskar was India's batting mainstay during the 1970s and the 1980s. As they famously put, “as long as Gavaskar was there, there was hope”. Gavaskar was known for his immaculate defense. His ability to concentrate over long periods was peerless.His last Test for India came in the same series against Pakistan, in Bengaluru.
