30_May_Trivia_Jaano_Junction.pngOn 30th May 1826, the first Hindi language newspaper 'Udant Martand' (The Rising Sun) was published from Calcutta under the Editorship of Pandit Shridhar Shukla. The weekly newspaper was published every Tuesday using the Devanagari script. ‘Udant Martand’ used a mixture of Khari Boli and Braj Bhasha dialects of Hindi in its editions. The newspaper had difficulty in finding subscribers due to its distance from the Hindi-speaking areas of the North India and higher postal rates. Today, "Hindi Journalism Day" or Hindi Patrakarita Diwas is celebrated on 30 May each year, as it marked the "beginning of journalism in Hindi language".
