On 15th February 2005, YouTube, an Internet site on which videos can be shared and viewed by others, was launched in the United States. It was registered on February 14, 2005, by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, three former employees of the American e-commerce company PayPal. Their idea was that ordinary people would enjoy sharing their “home videos.”Shortly after the site opened on a limited (“beta”) basis in May 2005, it was attracting some 30,000 visitors per day. By the time YouTube was officially launched on December 15, 2005, it was serving more than two million video views each day. The numbers kept increasing every passing month. The first video was uploaded on 23rd April 2005 by YouTube cofounder Jawed Karim titled “Me at the zoo” and showed himself at the San Diego Zoo. The video currently has over 120 million views and almost 5 million likes.
