Yashasvi joins Sobers, Bradman in elite list after 600 runs in England series

JJ News Desk

Yashasvi Jaiswal completed 600 runs in the ongoing 5-match Test series against England. The southpaw went past the 600-run mark in India’s fifth Test against the Three Lions at the JSCA International Complex in Ranchi.

In 7 innings from 4 Tests, Jaiswal has scored 618 runs at an average of 103 and a strike-rate of 78.32 with 2 centuries and 2 fifties to his name.

Jaiswal also joined Don Bradman, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar, Graeme Smith and George Headley and Neil Harvey in the list of batters to have scored over 600 runs in a Test series before turning 23.

Cricketer with 600+ runs in a Test series before turning 23:

Don Bradman, 974 runs against England in 1930

Gary Sobers, 824 runs against Pakistan in 1957-58

Sunil Gavaskar, 774 runs against West Indies in 1970-71

Graeme Smith, 714 runs against England in 2003

George Headley, 703 against England in 1929-30

Neil Harvey, 660 against South Africa in 1949-50

Yashasvi Jaiswal 618* against England in 2024

Jaiswal also became only the 5th Indian after Sunil Gavaskar (1971, 1978), Virat Kohli (2014, 2016, 2017), Dilip Sardesai (1971) and Rahul Dravid (2002) to score 600 or more runs in a Test series.

Jaiswal also has a chance of becoming India’s top run-getter in a Test series. Back in 1971, Gavaskar hammered 774 runs against the West Indies with 4 hundreds and 3 half-centuries. Jaiswal is only 156 runs away from breaking Gavaskar’s 53-year-old record.

On Day 2 of the Ranchi Test, Jaiswal also broke Virender Sehwag’s record of most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year. In 5 matches in 2024, Jaiswal has hit 23 sixes.

Jaiswal is also 66 runs away from completing 1000 runs in Test cricket, having scored 934 runs at an average of 71.84.
