Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods was arrested after his Land Rover overturned near his house in Florida. He was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of “some type of medication or drug,” though no substances were found in his vehicle.

Woods is currently being held at the Martin County Jail, where he must remain for at least eight hours under Florida law.

Woods registered a zero on a breathalyser test but declined to undergo a urinalysis. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of “some type of medication or drug,” though no substances were found in his vehicle.

The arrest came after his Land Rover overturned on a two-lane road near his home on Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Woods, 50, was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Southern California in February 2021 that left him with multiple leg fractures. No charges were filed, but the accident significantly affected his career, limiting his appearances on the PGA Tour in recent years.

He had earlier been arrested in May 2017 on a DUI charge in Jupiter Island, later pleading guilty to reckless driving. Woods received one year of probation, a $250 fine, and 50 hours of community service.

A 15-time major winner on the PGA Tour is not expected to play in next month’s Masters Tournament, though reports suggest he had registered for the US Senior Open.

A 15-time major champion, Woods had recently hinted at competing on the Champions Tour at the age of 50.

"I'm trying. Put it that way," Woods said at last month's Genesis Invitational near Los Angeles, when asked about playing again. "The disc replacement has been one thing. ... I've had a fused back and now a disc replacement, so it's challenging.

"And now, I entered a new decade, so that number is starting to sink in and has us thinking about the opportunity to be able to play in a cart. That's something that, as I said, I won't do out here on (in PGA Tour events) because I don't believe in it. But on the Champions Tour, that's certainly (an) opportunity."
