The Indian men’s hockey team defeated hosts Japan 2-0 in their Asian Games 2026 Pool A clash on September 26, booking their place in the semi-finals.

And yep — that makes it four wins from four for the defending champions.

Japan came out aggressive and kept India under pressure, particularly early in the game.

But India found the breakthrough in the 15th minute, with Abhishek putting the ball past the Japanese defence to give India the lead.

Japan kept pushing.

India kept the scoreboard locked.

Then came the captain.

In the 40th minute, captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner to double India's advantage.

Japan had chances. India had the cushion.
