International cricket's latest rankings update has brought major changes across formats. South Africa's Marco Jansen has claimed the No. 1 position in both Test bowling and Test all-rounder rankings, while India's Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the top spot among T20I batters.

The October 28 update also features a significant rise for South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, gains for India's Sanju Samson and Arshdeep Singh, and movement in the ODI rankings.

Marco Jansen takes over two No. 1 spots

Jansen's rise follows a match-winning performance against Australia in the second Test of the World Test Championship series in Gqeberha, South Africa.

The left-arm fast bowler scored 85 runs and claimed five wickets for 33 runs in Australia's first innings, helping South Africa secure a comprehensive victory.

His performance propelled him five places up the Test bowling rankings, past Australia's Mitchell Starc. He also overtook India's Ravindra Jadeja to become the top-ranked Test all-rounder, ending Jadeja's reign of more than four years.

Jansen also climbed 13 places to 56th in the Test batting rankings.

Abhishek Sharma reclaims the T20I batting crown

India's Abhishek Sharma is back at No. 1 in the ICC Men's T20I batting rankings after an explosive performance against New Zealand.

The left-handed opener smashed 113 off just 38 balls, reaching his century in 35 deliveries during the third T20I in Wellington. India won the match by six wickets and sealed the series.

His innings helped him overtake teammate Ishan Kishan, who had held the top ranking since July 2026. Abhishek first reached the No. 1 position in July 2025.

Latest ICC rankings: Key movers

Marco Jansen has reached No. 1 in both Test bowling and Test all-rounder rankings, climbing five places in the bowling chart and overtaking Ravindra Jadeja in the all-rounder standings. Harry Brook retains the top position in Test batting, while South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has climbed four places to No. 2.

In T20I cricket, Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No. 1 batting position. Sanju Samson has risen six places to No. 20 in the batting rankings, while New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has climbed seven places to No. 7 in T20I bowling. India's Arshdeep Singh has also gained six places to reach No. 15 in the bowling rankings.

ODI rankings: Shubman Gill leads Indian batters

India captain Shubman Gill remains the top-ranked batter in men's ODI cricket, with Virat Kohli at No. 3 and Rohit Sharma at No. 4.

The latest update has also brought movement in the ODI bowling and all-rounder charts. Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi has climbed two places to No. 6, while Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai has risen 13 places to No. 7. Bernard Scholtz has moved up nine places to No. 8 in ODI bowling, and Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi has climbed five places to No. 3 among ODI all-rounders.

Why these rankings matter

ICC rankings measure performances over time rather than rewarding a single match result. A player's position can change as recent performances are incorporated into the ratings system.

For Jansen, the latest update recognises his impact with both bat and ball in Test cricket. For Abhishek, the return to No. 1 underlines the impact of his explosive T20I batting.

With players from India, South Africa, Australia and England featuring prominently, the latest rankings offer a snapshot of the competition for individual honours across international cricket.
